Honor Those Who Serve

Every state has some memorial honoring the military in some way.  There are statues, gardens, parks, ponds, reflecting pools, waterfalls, etc. that were created to honor those who help keep America safe.   They are there to help us reflect on our freedom — the price paid to enjoy living here in the land of the free.  Take time to enjoy these places.  Tell children and grand children why these places are here.  Honor those who serve!

Remember Those Who Serve

My Dad was a veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict but rarely talked about his experiences. But once my two sons joined the army and served in Iraq, both at the same time, Dad seemed to find comradeship with them. I enjoyed listening to them compare notes — the differences then and now. I am proud of them and their willingness to serve so that I can enjoy the freedoms that I have today.

This month is a good time to remember those who have and are serving in the military. A special “hug” to all of you!

Make a Memory

I took my granddaughter to see a movie yesterday and the memory for both of us will last forever!  It wasn’t necessarily the specific movie but it was the anticipation, buying the ticket, buying the popcorn, handing the ticket to “the man,” all was a great experience.  Taking a few pictures as she sat like a “big” 2 1/2 year old in her own seat, holding her own popcorn will help make this a perfect memory.

I read the first draft of The Celiac Kid to my grandson over a year ago and he listened intently knowing it was all about him.  Seeing his face light up at the end was a wonderful memory for me.  Now he can read it himself with sheer delight because he reads about himself.  What a great childhood memory — having a book published all about you!

Make a memory with a child!  It’s simple — just give them your time!
